EDM – Entertainment Disk Media / Multimedia (90s)

EDM – Entertainment Disk Media – was a multimedia company created by Asian (Chinese and Singaporean ) investors in the suburban area of greater LA – Los Angeles (El Monte, California) . The company was aimed to create and distribute CD-Roms and websites in order to promote Asian community shops and stores around the area.

Many of the motion graphics and vide editing were done using early versions of Macromedia Director, Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects.

EDM Logo intro sequence for the CD-Rom magazine

A compilation of short video spots to advertise clients and services to be included in the multimedia CD-Rom magazine edited by EDM. Videos were edited using early versions of Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Macromedia Director etc… (*) The low-res was the standard for available PCs at the time. Poor quality of images and videos are due to multiple conversions done through the years.

Below are displayed some screenshots of the navigation menu and user interface from one of the multimedia CD-Roms produced in order to promote the company services:

CENAMEC / Educational Software (90s)

During the late 80s and early 90s, Venezuela was leading an interesting project to create educational software with entertainment elements for kids at schools. The organization in charge of such a project was called CENAMEC (Centro Nacional para el Mejoramiento de Ensenaza de la Ciencia / Center for the improvement of science teaching).

The above video displays few screenshots from a Spanish language tutor called DOCTORSE, all graphics were produced (painted) by Enzo Gianvittorio using a basic software called GRASP running on MS-DOS.

Logo intro done for the whole project was made using early versions of Macromedia Director as well as discontinued software like Macromedia Extreme 3D, etc…

The software production department was integrated by a multidisciplinary team of professionals from different background and areas of expertise, among them were Programmers, Engineers, Instructional Designers, Teachers, Graphic Designers, Musicians, etc. I personally was in charge of a group of five graphic designers who were taking part on each one of the different productions done. Among the tiles produced were: MEMORIA, DOCTORSE, ACERTANDONOS AL PETROLEO, RULETA, EL AHORCADO, OSTEON, etc.. (see external reference)

This is a classical animation using hand made drawings, scanning them and digitally colored and sequenced using early versions of multimedia software called Macromedia Director.
